Some games are already playable, but compatibility is still being developed. Graphical errors, audio issues, slowdowns or crashes may occur depending on the title.

What is PS1?

The original PlayStation (1994) brought 3D polygon graphics to a mass audience and propelled Sony to market leadership. Emulating it requires moderately powerful hardware because of its MIPS R3000A CPU architecture and its GTE and MDEC coprocessors for graphics and video.

What you can do today

  • Import a disc using its CUE file and all the tracks it references.
  • Import complete discs from ZIP, RAR or 7z archives containing the CUE and its tracks.
  • Play with touch controls or an Android-compatible controller.
  • Save within the game using virtual memory cards.
  • Create and load save states to resume your game.

Known limitations

  • Some games may have graphical errors, audio issues or crashes.
  • Performance depends on the game and device; not every title runs smoothly.
  • On phones and tablets, the system requires a 64-bit version of Android for ARM processors.

Getting started with PS1

  1. Prepare the complete disc

You need a game disc image you have permission to use. Keep the CUE file together with every BIN file it references, without changing their names.

  2. Add it to Nelkano

Open the library, tap the + button and select a CUE file and all its tracks together. You can also select a ZIP, RAR or 7z archive containing the complete disc.

  3. Open the game

Once the import is complete, open the game from the library. You can use the on-screen buttons or an Android-compatible controller.

Frequently asked questions about PS1

Which files should I select?

A CUE file and all the tracks it references, usually BIN files. The CUE describes how the disc is organized and must accompany its tracks.

Can I import a compressed game?

Yes. You can add a ZIP, RAR or 7z archive containing the CUE and all its tracks. Nelkano extracts the files during import.

How do I save my game?

You can use the game's own save option, which writes to a virtual memory card, or create a save state from Nelkano. These are two different ways of saving.

Do all PlayStation games work?

No. Some titles are already playable, while others still have issues. A game showing its intro or menu does not guarantee that the whole game will work correctly.
