What is SNES?

Super Nintendo and Super Famicom are Nintendo’s 16-bit consoles, home to platforming, action and role-playing classics. Nelkano lets you import compatible games on Android with video, sound and the original controller’s buttons. The core is in development: compatibility and performance depend on the game and device.

What you can do today

  • Import .sfc and .smc games, including from ZIP archives.
  • Play with touch controls or an Android-compatible controller.
  • Use the D-pad, A, B, X, Y, L, R, Start and Select.
  • Keep progress in games that support compatible in-game saves.
  • Play without an external BIOS.

Known limitations

  • Some cartridges with additional coprocessors are not supported yet.
  • Certain games may have graphics or sound issues, or freeze.
  • Emulator save states are not available yet.
  • Full speed on Android and PAL game support have not been verified.

Getting started with SNES

  1. Prepare your game

    Use a .sfc or .smc file you have permission to use. You can also import a ZIP containing the game; keep the ROM’s original extension.

  2. Add it to your library

    Update Nelkano to a version that includes SNES. Open the library, tap + and select the file, then launch the game from its page.

  3. Set up controls and save your progress

    Check the touch buttons or connect a controller. To continue later, use the game’s own save feature when available and exit the game normally.

Frequently asked questions about SNES

Do I need a BIOS?

No. Nelkano’s SNES core does not require an external BIOS.

Can I save and load states?

Emulator save states are not available for SNES yet. Games with compatible in-game saving can keep your progress when you pause or close the game.

Do all games run at full speed?

This is not guaranteed. Gameplay and speed tests on PC do not certify Android performance. Some games have issues or require coprocessors that are not implemented yet.

Are games included?

No. Nelkano does not include commercial games. Use compatible content you have the necessary rights to use.

How can I report a problem?

Include the game’s name, your Nelkano version, your device and the steps to reproduce the issue.
